Get The Right Office Desk For The Best Office Work Culture

It is an employer’s duty to provide its staff good office furniture. It is not only beneficial for the employees’ over all health, but indirectly yet significantly, important for the benefit of the organisation. Let us see how. Employee’s Benefit An employee spends more than half part of each day in office. It is where the employees sit and work for a long duration of time. So if the work environment is not good enough, the employees would feel discomfort and would have to strain their body parts in order to get work done. For instance, if the office chairs are not adjustable, people with different heights would face different kinds of difficulty. The tall ones would have to stoop, while the short ones would have to strain in order to reach their work space. Again, the office desks also need to have sound ergonomics so that the employees do not hurt their joints, muscles or nerves while they are on the job. Organisation’s Benefit It is needless to say that benefit of the employees is directly proportional to the overall growth and development of an organisation. More fit and happy employees would mean more willingness to work and perform better. More work oriented mindset would automatically show positive results in terms of increase in productivity and good work culture. Such a healthy environment would again lead to enhanced motivation to work, thereby taking the organisation from one milestone to another successfully. Employer’s Benefit Benefit of the organisation would mean the employer is getting benefited. In fact, it is the prime goal of an employer to think for the success and well being of the organisation. With the new age office furniture, the employer now gains an advantage. The contemporary collection of office chairs, desks and other important office furniture come at very cost effective rates. So now you can get stylish and good quality office desk, chairs and other furniture at half the rates and provide your employees a stress free work culture.

Ergonomic Suggestions And Restraints For Office Furniture

Whilst each environment and office space will be different, there are certain guidelines from The European Directive on Working with Computers and Safety Legislation which calls for an office working environment to be ergonomically modified to best serve each individual’s specific needs. Office furniture in the UK is tested and certified to either British or European standards which satisfies the requirement for the furniture to be safe and stable and not expose the user to possible risk of injury. Workspace The workspace needs to be the best available space when taking into account the following requirements: The workspace needs to accommodate all equipment and paperwork required for the user to do their specific job properly. The workspace also needs to fit the anatomy of the user and the tasks they need to perform. The workspace needs to do both of these things as well as take into account the other users’ workspaces that may be adjacent or around it in the whole office space. Workspaces can be all shapes and sizes depending on the above factors. Clearance underneath With most office desks being around 720mm from the floor to the top of the desk and having a usual desktop thickness of 25mm – this leaves 695mm from the floor to the under side of the desktop. 650mm is usually considered the minimum height to the underside of the desk and can only be achieved using a height adjustable desk at its lowest setting. Clearance along length 600mm is considered to be the absolute minimum width of legroom beneath a desk. 1000mm would be the ideal minimum to allow some movement space for the users legs. Work height Most office desks with have a standard height of around 720mm from the floor to the desktop, this is judged to accommodate around 90% of the population. A height adjustable desk will usually have a range from around 650mm up to 1200mm – this type of desk can be used for wheel chair users or tall users. A height adjustable desk is also beneficial for users with bad backs and users that have a job that benefits a change in working position from sitting to standing on a regular basis. Users that are shorter will benefit from a footrest under a normal height desk to achieve a standard working position. Working depth The main criteria for the depth of an office desk, is to ensure that the user is not too close to the computer monitor. Most computer monitors are now the thin TFT or LCD style which can be situated on or mounted to the desk in varying ways. (See the Monitor Height Section Below!) As these types of monitors are in their nature thinner than the old style CRT monitors it gives greater scope for designers to produce desk depths from 600mm which is classed as narrow to 800mm or 900mm in depth. The basic rule of thumb should be that from the user side of the desk there should be approximately 100mm of clear desk before the keyboard for the user’s wrists to rest on whilst using the keyboard. A keyboard is usually about 150mm in depth leaving 350mm depth to the back of a 600mm deep desk or 550mm on a more standard 800mm deep office desk for the monitor. Monitor height Each user will have different requirements for the height of their computer monitor, although it is generally recognized that the top of the monitor should be aligned horizontally with the users vision unless altered for a specific task or adjusted to avoid glare from light. In order to get the correct adjustability as described above, it is usually necessary for the monitor to be mounted on an articulated monitor arm. The monitor arm can be mounted to the edge of the office desk or through a cable port via a clamp or bolted directly through the desktop. (Not really recommended as this will damage the desk!) Another style of monitor arm can be mounted to a free-standing or desk mounted screen, although the screens will need to have two toolbars in order for the bracket to attach. Laptop height In some countries, legislation limits laptop use to as little as two hours, although there is no such legislation in the UK. It is always a good idea to adjust posture and not stay in the same working position for any length of time – especially when using a laptop. Taking on board the same theories for making a normal TFT monitor work in an ergonomic fashion, if a laptop is placed on a stand and used in conjunction with a separate keyboard and mouse, it enables the laptop user to achieve a better viewing distance and working posture thereby avoiding fatigue in the arms, hands, neck and eyes. Desks in the Home

Desks can be placed in just about every room in the home. They are used for work and study, as well as entertainment. Whether you are a student, gamer or a full-time work at home businessperson, desks are important to the home. Custom-built desks are generally fastened to a wall, while pre-made units are positioned near a wall. An office desk in the home that stands alone allows others to sit in front perhaps to take notes or chat. Here is a list of the many types of desks in the home. Computer Desk Hall Desk Bedroom Desk Workshop Desk Kitchen Desk Make-up Desk Study Desk Office DeskDesks are generally 28″-30″ high allowing any standard chair to be used. The knee space is a standard 24″ high. This allows 4″-6″ for a pencil drawer or keyboard tray to be placed above the knees. Smaller desks can be sized down to 24″-26″ for children. The depth of a desk is 20″-24″ in most situations, if it is facing a wall anything deeper will be wasted. In the case of stand-alone office desks it can be 30″-36″ deep. Most desks today have a place for a desktop computer; this requires a cabinet to one side with no shelf to allow the tower to be enclosed inside. The monitor is placed on top directly in front of the user while the printer often times has a designated spot. A hole located on the desktop or in the back allows components to be connected.Desks with cabinets on each side of the knee space have drawers and doors built in, while some desks have upper cabinets mounted above providing additional storage. There are several forms of desks like pedestal desks and rolltop desks as well as different styles like U-shaped or L-shaped.With so many different designs of desks it pays to do some research and find out which suites you best. If you are buying a pre-built desk, your options can be limited. Your local cabinetmaker can custom-design a desk for you and build it exactly the way you want.Visit us at Hardwood Technology to learn more about Cabinets and WoodworkingArticle Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Chris_Looney

    Creating an Ergonomic Home Office

The way you arrange your home office desk can actually protect you from stress injuries. In fact, increasing your comfort may also increase your performance. A good computer desk will provide somewhere where you can work in an organized and comfortable way, and with enough storage space for all your paperwork and accessories. The following guidelines can be incorporated into your home office for a healthy, comfortable workspace. And remember that if you feel an ache, take a break from your home office computer desk.Ergonomic computer desks are designed to help prevent eye strain. The ergonomic desk will have a monitor position that is approximately 24″ from the user. The monitor screen position will be at the top of, or slightly below eye level. A document holder or copyholder can be added to properly position the document upright. Other accessories related to eye strain can are glare filters to reduce glare, brightness and reflection. Task lighting also will help to illuminate documents and avoid shadows. To prevent carpal tunnel syndrome, use an adjustable keyboard tray with your home office desk that keeps the wrist straight in a neutral position. Keep the bottom of the elbow even with the keyboard height. Keep forearms approximately parallel to the floor. Use minimum force while striking keys. Utilize chair arms for support.Neck strain will be felt if the desk height is not correct. The correct position keeps your shoulders relaxed and in a neutral position as you type. Avoid cradling the phone between your shoulder and ear. Keep elbows close to your sides as you use the keyboard and mouse. Do not overextend your arm to reach the mouse. Keep the mouse as close to the keyboard as possible. Take a moment every so often to roll your shoulders up and back to alleviate tension.Back pain is another sign of poor seating. Adjust your desk chair so your thighs are parallel to the floor. Sit back in the seat so that your lower back is supported firmly by the chair or a lumbar support cushion. Place feet on a footrest to relieve “pull” on the lower back (recommended if your feet don’t touch the floor). Try a molded seat cushion, which distributes weight and adds support. Make sure to get up and stretch every hour.Products If you’re likely to spend a lot of time sitting in front of your computer, it’s important that your chair and desk are properly designed and adjusted for comfort.
